Zócalo – Main plaza in Mexico City. Surrounded by Palacio Nacional (government building dating back to Moctezuma), la Catedral (gorgeous cathedral built on top of an Aztec temple and site of a couple engagement photos), and Zócalo Central hotel (discount code above). Exhibitions, book fairs, Aztec dancers, street vendors, etc.
Coyoacan & La Casa Azul – Cool neighborhood with tacos and souvenirs; the house where Frida Kahlo grew up.
Calle Donceles – Fantastic street lined with used bookstores near the Zócalo; old/rare books, books in many languages, etc.
Bosque de Chapultepec – Nahuatl for “grasshopper”, the largest city park in Latin America. Sections include an amusement park and the Rufino Tamayo Museum of modern art.
Museo Nacional de Antropologia – Most visited museum in Mexico, in Chapultepec.
Los Bisquets Obregón - Esperanza’s favorite restaurant. Good place for breakfast and lunch.
El Globo - Panaderia/Mexican bakery you can find everywhere in México. Really, everywhere. Look for it at the airport.
El Moro - Churros and coffee. Est. 1937.
Café de Tacuba - Good food, good prices. Recommended by Esperanza.
La Cervecería de Barrio – Hip seafood.
Cantina La Valenciana – Over one-hundred years old; restaurant and bar.
La Hija de los Apaches – Dive-bar for pulque and dancing; difficult to find seating when packed, but the pulque is worth it!
El Salón Tenampa – Restaurant and bar at Plaza Garibaldi, a famous Mariachi plaza.
